4/4/2019 (Permalink)

A fire in the work place can cause a great deal of damage. In addition to material destruction injuries and fatalities can occur as well. Here we would like to share with you some basic fire prevention to keep you and your co-workers as safe on the job as possible.

Steps of Prevention:

  • Create a prevention program that includes preventative measures, preparation, and recognition of fire hazards.
  • Be well informed of proper handling of all combustible and flammable materials.
  • Maintain a clean work environment to reduce the risk of fire.
  • Always keep the proper fire extinguishing gear nearby and know it’s locations.

General Safety:

  • Always keep fire extinguishing gear away from clutter so it is easily accessible
  • Make sure only approved containers are used for combustible materials
  • Never store flammable materials within 10 feet of any flammable structure
  • Periodically clean up your work environment
  • Make it a habit to properly dispose of combustible materials from your work area
  • Always follow the proper steps to avoid creating a hazardous environment

Preventative Safety:

  • Keep fire extinguishers easily accessible and know how to properly operate them
  • Inspect fire equipment on a regular basis
  • Provide all employees with proper training in the event that a fire should occur
  • Configure an alarm system consisting of both lights and sounds
  • Keep local authority and fire department information on hand and have employees know exactly where to find them
